Jonathan Lux

 

Mr Lux has direct commercial experience in the maritime industry and in the related fields of energy, insurance, and international trade and commerce. He acts for oil industry interests including major offshore construction, drilling and other oilfield services contractors in support of their worldwide services. Mr Lux advises on the construction, employment and operation of offshore drilling units and production platforms. His experience in advising on maritime issues has led to the development of his practice in offshore energy as well as renewables.

Mr Lux also advises on preparation, drafting and negotiation of contracts for offshore structures and support vessels, including the construction and charter of FPSOs and pipelaying vessels. His expertise extends to the operation and leasing of assets utilised by the offshore oil and gas industry, on claims under marine and energy insurance policies, and on disputes arising from all of the foregoing. 

Mr Lux is a leading expert in shipping and commercial law with particular expertise in bunkers and is co-author of the only legal text-book on bunkers - "Fisher & Lux on Bunkers" (now in its third edition). He advises the major P&I Clubs, their shipowner and charterer members, and major insurers. 

Mr Lux's experience has led him to champion the use of ADR and arbitration in these sectors, to enable people quickly and cost-effectively put disputes behind them and get on with their business. 

A pioneer in the introduction of ADR into his fields of practice, Mr Lux is also a practising arbitrator and a Fellow of the Institute of Arbitrators. He is an accredited mediator who has conducted numerous mediations over many years achieving an enviable success rate and has participated in Court mediation schemes. 

He has also lectured widely and written numerous articles on the subject of mediation and is co-author of "ADR and Commercial Disputes" (Sweet & Maxwell, 2003).

Mr Lux is a Council Member of the International Bunker Industry Association and former co-ordinator of its working group on dispute resolutions, and a Director of the London Shipping Law Centre. He has been listed in Chambers Global Directory and Who's Who Legal 2009 as a leading international shipping lawyer in London ("Regarded as a team player, he is a valuable asset in contentious circumstances." Chambers & Partners, 2008; "Leads the voting worldwide with unanimous praise coming from all corners of the globe." Who's Who Legal, 2009). Mr Lux is the recipient of the "Award as Global Shipping and Maritime Lawyer of the Year" (Who's Who Legal, 2010).

In his personal life, Mr Luxs second priority (after his family) is motor sport. He races classic Formula and Ford cars and has taken part in several endurance rallies. He participated in the 1997 Beijing to Paris Classic Car Rally winning First in Class and a Gold Medal and raising substantial funds for the cause of Human Rights.
